“ASU’s Skattebo and Tyson are the top 4 touchdowns in the opener against Arizona.”

TUCSON — ASU football relied on stars Cam Skattebo and Jordyn Tyson to score four straight touchdowns to open Saturday’s Territorial Cup game in Tucson.

Of the 148 yards on the game’s first two drives, Skattebo and Tyson accounted for 119 yards, with Skattebo both scoring from close range.

Four of the Sun Devils’ first six plays were Skattebo runs of up to 32 yards before he later scored the touchdown on a Wildcat look.

Tyson had an 11-yard grab to power the first drive after an earlier six-yard completion. However, he didn’t cause the real damage until the next trip.

He found space in the Arizona defense on a flank line and sprinted down the sideline, collapsing a defender after a hesitant move for a first-and-goal on his 59-yard gain. Two Skattebo runs later, the Sun Devils were ahead 14-0.

The early success pushed Tyson over the 1,000-yard mark this season, something no Sun Devil has accomplished since Brandon Aiyuk (1,192 yards in 2019).

Arizona State kept its foot on the gas pedal on its third drive as Skattebo broke off a 34-yard gain on the first play of the series. After Kyson Brown ran hard for 27 yards, Tyson scored his first score of the day with a quick pass from 13 yards.

ASU’s defense almost completely shut down Arizona, which gained 29 yards, had just three first downs and had no points in its first 10 plays.

Arizona remained scoreless despite a 61-yard kick return on the next kickoff due to a missed 55-yard field goal by Tyler Loop.

When the ASU offense came back into action, it was Skattebo again who took the lead again from close range to make it 28-0. It was the second straight week with three first-half touchdowns for the running back.
