Avalanche vs. Stars prediction, tips and odds for today’s NHL game

The Dallas Stars shoot a lot, but also concede a lot of goals. Expect this game to turn into a shootout.

The Dallas Stars will take on the Colorado Avalanche in an exciting contest.

It’s been an ugly week for Dallas, as they’ve allowed six goals in back-to-back games and my Avalanche vs. Stars predictions predict plenty more goals to come tonight.

My analysis
It’s been an ugly November month for the Dallas Stars, who have a 6-6-0 record and have allowed the sixth-most goals against per game (3.25).

People talk about the Stars as one of the best Stanley Cup contenders, but in recent weeks things have quieted down a bit. There was a lot of disagreement on this team.

On the other hand, the Colorado Avalanche are winning games as they are 8-4-0 in their last 12 games, but the pucks are still going in against them, which seems to be a general trend with this team. In those 12 games, the Avs allowed and scored 3.17 goals per game.

Colorado is coming off a low-scoring battle against the Vegas Golden Knights in which it scored on just one of its 34 shots. So I expect the offense to break out a bit more tonight against a struggling Dallas team.

Jake Oettinger is expected to start in goal for the Stars tonight and has posted an SV% of 0.892% in his last nine appearances, which is uncharacteristic for him. This is not the Dallas team we are used to.

On the offensive side of the puck, both teams know how to generate the puck. Dallas is currently creating the third-most chances in the league, averaging 13.04 per game, while the Avalanche have the fifth-most at 12.63 per 60.

Mikko Rantanen and Nathan MacKinnon have both scored 17 points in their last 12 games. They, as always, along with Cale Makar, will be the players to watch for Colorado.

Meanwhile for Dallas. Matt Duchene has had quite the slump with 15 points in his last 12 games.

Over 6.5

Matt Duchene 1+ point

Cale Makar 2+ points

Duchene loves playing against his former team and the organization that selected him. In 16 career games against Colorado, Duchene recorded 12 goals and five assists for 17 points.

He is currently on a three-game points streak in which he scored two goals and provided three assists, and should be able to continue that streak today.

Believe it or not, Makar has actually been held pointless in his last two games, so he’s in for a big night.

Makar has recorded nine multi-point games this season, which is not uncommon for All-Star defensemen.
