DAZN wins contract for BL conference

The Bundesliga conference will be shown on DAZN on Saturday afternoons in the four seasons from 2025/26 to 2028/29. According to SID information, this is a result of the billion-dollar poker game over the German-language media rights of the German Football League (DFL). In addition to the conference, DAZN will also broadcast the games on Sunday, and Sky will in future show the individual games on Friday and Saturday. Sky previously had the rights to the conference. The DFL as well as DAZN and Sky did not comment on SID’s request on Saturday.

The new edition of media rights started on Monday. The restart became necessary as a result of the arbitration award in the dispute between the DFL and the streaming provider DAZN at the end of September. In mid-April, the DFL suspended the auction due to the dispute with DAZN, which, like Sky, still holds the live rights until the end of the current season.

Specifically, package B includes the Saturday games at 3:30 p.m. as well as the individual matches on Friday evening and the relegation – a total of 196 games per season. DAZN felt discriminated against because its offer was rejected even though it was “the most financially attractive and convincing.” The bid is said to have amounted to 400 million euros per season – a total of 1.6 billion euros. However, the DFL does not accept the financial guarantees provided by DAZN. That’s why package B is said to have gone to Sky despite a lower offer (allegedly 320 million per season).

Sky has now also been awarded the contract for package B. DAZN secured the rights to package A (161 games) including the conference, which was previously traditionally set for Sky.
