Donovan Edwards Injury: Michigan RB leaves “The Game” against Ohio State after second quarter run

Edwards appeared to be sandwiched between a couple of Ohio State defenders. He managed to get up and walk to the sideline, albeit slowly.

The hit can be seen below.

The drive ended with a 54-yard field goal Dominic Zvada and a 10-3 Michigan lead late in the second quarter.

At this point in the game, Edwards had four carries for 11 yards and two catches for two yards. Entering the game, Edwards had 124 carries for 574 yards, four touchdowns and 4.7 yards per carry. He also had 16 catches for 81 yards and a touchdown.

FOX’s Jenny Taft later reported that it was “questionable” that Edwards would return to the game after halftime.

Edwards regularly played big games against Ohio State, such as at Ohio Stadium in 2022, delivering two touchdown runs of 75 and 85 yards to seal a 45-23 victory, Michigan’s first at this venue since 2000.

Edwards replaced the star running back Blake Coruma Heisman Trophy contender who had injured his knee the week before against Illinois tried out in Columbus but wasn’t effective or healthy enough to stay in the game. Edwards totaled 216 rushing yards while wearing a cast and playing through pain.

“It’s not about reproducing anything for myself,” Edwards said Tuesday at Schembechler Hall. “It’s just about doing what we have to do to win the football game. I’m not trying… because I tried to be something that I was in the past and that past is gone. So I have to look forward to what is to come.

“I don’t want to repeat anything in the next game. I’m just trying to impress myself, play a great game as a football team and get a win out of it. That’s all our mindset is.”
