Dortmund 1:1 Bayern (November 30, 2024) Match analysis

DORTMUND, Germany, Nov 30 (Reuters) – Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich scored an 85th-minute equalizer through in-form Jamal Musiala, salvaging a 1-1 draw at Borussia Dortmund in the classic on Saturday and moving seven points clear at the top.

Dortmund, who had won their last six home league games this season, took the lead in the 27th minute thanks to Jamie Gittens’ outstanding individual performance before the visitors suffered another setback six minutes later when top scorer Harry Kane went off injured had to be provided.

Bayern, who had won their last seven games in all competitions without conceding a goal, improved after the break and created a number of chances but lacked some finishing touch before Musiala’s equaliser.

In a rollercoaster first half, Dortmund had to replace injured defender Waldemar Anton after just 17 minutes.

However, the hosts took their first chance of the game when England youth international Gittens fended off Konrad Laimer, stormed into the penalty area and fired a shot past goalkeeper Manuel Neuer for his fourth league goal.

Bayern, who are unbeaten in the league, had Kane, who scored 14 league goals, removed and replaced by Thomas Müller.

The veteran almost scored two minutes after the restart when Musiala found him in the penalty area, but his close-range shot was blocked by goalkeeper Gregor Kobel.

With the visitors now in control, Musiala tried his luck with a curling low shot from 20 yards before Leroy Sane’s poor finishing sent his own shot from close range wide.

Bayern’s Neuer had to come to the rescue in the 62nd minute to deny Marcel Sabitzer and keep his team in the game, before five minutes from time the unmarked Musiala struck, heading in a cross from Michael Olise for his sixth league goal.

Bayern are at the top with 30 points, seven ahead of Eintracht Frankfurt, who visit Heidenheim on Sunday. Dortmund remains in fifth place with 20. (Reporting by Karolos Grohmann, Editing by Pritha Sarkar and Clare Fallon)
