“Fortnite” breaks player record with Juice WRLD, Ice Spice, Snoop Dogg and Eminem concert

If you think Fortnite peaked years ago, you’re completely wrong. The game continues to grow and grow and has now set a new player record with several million more players than the previous Big Bang event.

Fortnite just hosted an expansive virtual concert featuring Snoop Dogg, Eminem, Ice Spice and the late Juice WRLD, with the show intended as a tribute to the late rapper. For about 15 minutes, everyone played a song or two, ending with Juice WRLD taking the stage to himself while the players floated around in crystal butterfly form.

The previous record for concurrent players for Fortnite was 11.6 million at Big Bang. Now it’s a staggering 14.3 million, about 25% more than the old record.

It is the third concert event of this magnitude, following previous performances by Travis Scott and Ariana Grande. Fortnite has produced many performers and musicians over the years, but most are now integrated into the Fortnite Festival rather than a major event like this. Lady Gaga and Billie Eilish, for example, have music and skins in the game, but they haven’t had such big performances yet.

Players received a free Juice WRLD skin if they logged in before the show this week, which could have boosted attendance slightly. This is also the end of Chapter 5 and Chapter 6 starts tomorrow, a Japanese-themed episode that looks amazing, so the hype is pretty high among the player base.

Simply put, we don’t know exactly when Fortnite will truly peak. It may not be in the news every other day like it was when it became the biggest battle royale in the world, but even years later we can still see it setting records like this on a regular basis when there’s something new and huge produces.

As for the show itself, it was a lot of fun, with the typical “larger than life” performances that included Snoop Dogg rapping in a mansion and outer space, Eminem fighting a mecha version of himself, and Ice Spice rapping over a city skyline . Juice WRLD’s was at his most subdued, rapping on the horizon and stars in an almost Mufasa-like appearance, reflecting how he was previously positioned on the map. It was really worth seeing. And 14 million people did.
