Michigan vs. Ohio State fight: What we know about the postgame altercation

Michigan stunned #2 Ohio State, 13-10the Saturday after He scored a field goal with 45 seconds left in regulation. The late kick sealed the Wolverines’ fourth straight win over their bitter rival in the 120th edition of The Game and likely ended the Buckeyes’ hopes of returning to the United States Big Ten Title game.

But after the game the action wasn’t quite over yet as there was chaos on the pitch.

Emotions ran high as Michigan head coach Sherrone Moore waved goodbye to Ohio State fans from the sidelines as the clock ticked down. He then As he stepped onto the field in the final seconds, he received a quick shower of Gatorade.

After several Wolverines players attempted to place a Michigan flag on Ohio State’s midfield logo, tempers heated and a violent brawl quickly broke out. Michigan apparently attempted to fly the flag during “Carmen Ohio,” Ohio State University’s alma mater song that the team and fans sing after every game and the oldest school song still used by the university.

The Ohio State University Police Department released a statement after the game confirming that both teams used pepper spray during the melee, noting that “several officers from Ohio and Michigan used pepper spray” and that police “the “Continue investigations” – field dispute.

FOX Sports’ Jenny Taft spoke with Michigan’s Kalel Mullings after the fight. Mullings was instrumental in the win, scoring on a 27-yard run with two minutes left to give the Wolverines the lead at the Buckeyes’ 17-yard line.

“You can’t fight just because you lost a game,” he said. “All these fights – we had 60 minutes, we had four quarters to fight all these fights. …It’s just bad for the game. Classless, in my opinion. … People have to be better.”

Ohio State head coach Ryan Day commented on the scuffle in his postgame press release.

“This is our field,” he said, “and certainly… we’re embarrassed that we lost the game, but you know there are some proud boys on this team who weren’t just going to let that happen.”
