Ole Miss Football vs. Mississippi State

The No. 14 Ole Miss Rebels and the Mississippi State Bulldogs will face off Friday afternoon in Oxford in another edition of the Battle of the Golden Egg, also known as the Egg Bowl.

Ole Miss leads the all-time series over Mississippi State 65-49-6 and has won three of the last four meetings in this rivalry, including a 17-7 victory last season in Starkville. Rebels head coach Lane Kiffin is looking to win four of the five Egg Bowls he has won since taking over at Ole Miss before the 2020 season.

Can the Rebels emerge victorious at this year’s meeting? Here are final result predictions from Ole Miss On SI.

How much buy-in does Ole Miss have left after last week’s performance in The Swamp? Sure, the Rebels’ chance of sneaking into the postseason is slim, but the upsets have to be at the peak of news compared to Week 13. This is a team made up of transfers, most of whom may not understand the implications of the Magnolia State rivalry.

However, Mississippi State is having a bad year. There is no scenario in which Ole Miss loses unless the team shows up to the game. No, in the truest sense of the word. The bus broke down in the middle of a tornado and the game had to be canceled.

Score Prediction: Ole Miss 38, Mississippi State 10

The Rebels are coming off a demoralizing loss and Mississippi State is looking for its only conference win of the season. This creates an interesting eggshell. While all of these games are usually very closely contested, I think that since Ole Miss needs this win to earn a shot at a playoff spot, I think they will pull off a comfortable victory.

Score Prediction: Ole Miss 42, Mississippi State 13

The Rebels head home after losing a crucial game in The Swamp, and they have one more opportunity to make a statement.

I think the Ole Miss offense is finding a rhythm against one of the worst defenses in the country, while the Rebels’ defense is coming under tremendous pressure and forcing quarterback Michael Van Buren to make some freshman mistakes.

Score Prediction: Ole Miss 45, Mississippi State 14

Which Ole Miss team will show up on Friday? Is it the motivated team that didn’t take no for an answer against Georgia, or is it the team that laid eggs (pardon the pun) against Kentucky, LSU and Florida?

I think the Rebels will face a motivated Mississippi State team today, but Ole Miss should be motivated themselves to try to backdoor their way into the College Football Playoff. The rebels win, but the state covers.

Score Prediction: Ole Miss 38, Mississippi State 17
