The 2019 video of Justin Trudeau mocking Donald Trump in front of an audience that included Emmanuel Macron went viral as the Canadian prime minister rushed to Florida to meet President-elect Donald Trump after Trump with had threatened tariffs. The duo reportedly attended the dinner after speaking by phone following Trump’s announcement of 25 percent tariffs on Canada and Mexico if the two countries fail to curb the flow of illegal immigrants and illegal drugs from their countries contain the USA.
Trudeau said he had a good conversation with Donald Trump where they talked about the challenges and how to address them together. Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo initially said that Mexico would also impose counter-tariffs if the U.S. threatened tariffs, but Sheinbaum also spoke to Trump by phone on the topic.
But then Trudeau became the first G-7 leader to visit Trump since the US election. Trudeau adds to the list of unlikely visitors Mar-a-Lago has hosted in recent days, and that includes Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg.
As Republicans mock Trudeau for rushing to appease Trump, the old mocking video goes viral. In the footage, Trudeau, Boris Johnson and Emmanuel Macron sat together at an event at Buckingham Palace. Johnson asked Macron: “Is that why he was late?” to which Trudeau said: “He was late because he spoke off the cuff for a 40-minute press conference.”

Trudeau added: “Oh yeah, yeah yeah. He announced…” before being interrupted by Macron, who spoke animatedly to the group. “You just saw his team’s jaws drop,” Trudeau once said. Macron stood with his back to the camera and his words were inaudible. They didn’t mention Trump, but it was obvious they were referring to Trump’s press conference that day.
In fact, the video caused quite a stir at the time and Trudeau admitted that he and other world leaders were talking about Trump. “Last night I pointed out that there was an unscheduled press conference before my meeting with President Trump. I was happy to be a part of it, but it was certainly remarkable,” Trudeau said at the time.
