UCF football head coach Gus Malzahn is resigning

A source close to the UCF football program has confirmed to WESH 2 that UCF football head coach Gus Malzahn has resigned from his position and will become the next offensive coordinator at Florida State.

A Florida State spokesperson told WESH 2, “We have identified our next offensive coordinator and will make an official announcement once the hiring process is complete.”

Malzahn compiled a record of 28-24 during his time in Orlando. But since joining the Big 12, the Knights have had two straight losing seasons. They were just 4-8 that season, the worst record of Malazhn’s coaching career.

Earlier this season, Malzahn fired defensive coordinator Ted Roof and relinquished his duties as offensive game manager. A big reason for the Knights’ lack of offensive production this year was the revolving door at quarterback. Malzahn played four different quarterbacks and injuries were not a factor.
