Washington State hosts Wyoming in season finale (GAME THREAD)

Hello Coug fans, I hope you all had a great Thanksgiving. I don’t know what to be more grateful for – the next opportunity to watch college football or the fact that we’ll only have to watch this frustrating Cougar defense two more times this season.

But enough negativity, our Cougs are back home to take on the Wyoming Cowboys, who have only won two games. WSU clearly has more to offer as it’s final day and a 10-win season is still to come. But the Cougs had more to offer against New Mexico and Oregon State, and we saw how that played out.

Okay, now I promise – enough negativity. It’s hard given what we’ve been through in the last two weeks, but I’ll do my best.

The Cowboys have wins against Air Force and New Mexico (uh oh), and they also have a loss against FCS Idaho. They give up 422 yards per game, so WSU’s offense shouldn’t have much trouble as long as it doesn’t beat itself. The Cowboys are no. 119 in total offense and lean more towards a running game, although even that is only ranked number one. 87 nationwide.

Evan Svoboda is the likely starter under center for Wyoming, and he has been hot and cold this year. He started eight games before being benched. His replacement – Kaden Anderson – is injured and is not expected to play. Svoboda is a good threat, so hold on tight.

All eyes are on the WSU defense today as Coug fans long for SOMETHING to change. Maybe the Cougs will get their first sack in four games. Maybe that’s asking too much. At least let’s hope the defense isn’t forced to cover a wide receiver.

Cougs and Cowboys. Talk about it here.

Where

Gesa Field at Martin Stadium. It will be the last time WSU’s seniors will play at home. Let’s go out with a bang.

Everyone’s favorite channel, The CW. Ted Robinson and Ryan Leaf are in action once again. Pittsburgh and Boston College are the starting point.

The line

Does it really matter anymore? The Cougs have lost two weeks in a row as double-digit favorites and are at -17.5 today. The O/U is 56.5.

Do you remember him?

Former WSU defensive line coach Jeff Phelps now coaches defensive tackles at Wyoming. Phelps was at WSU from 2017 to 2019.

Previous meetings

The Cougs are 5-2 all-time against Wyoming, with their last meeting coming in Laramie in 2018 when a then-unknown quarterback named Gardner Minshew led the Cougs to a 41-19 victory. Jake Dickert was the safety coach at Wyoming in this game:
